                                        WRINKLE REDUCING AGENTS

We search and search in hopes to find the perfect cream that will reduce
the signs of aging. Although it seems as if everyone has jumped on the
ban wagon with a new formula these days, there are few that truly work.
Perhaps a quick fix, but what about 3 to 6 months down the road.
We seek-long term benefits.

Our layers of skin take us through a journey called mitosis every 28 days.
In this process cells divide and make their way to the surface. Once at
the surface, we shed to allow the new layers through. Aging processes
lead to changes in our skin composition, loss of skin function and elasticity
allowing the outer layers to be dehydrated which means rough wrinkly skin.

With age, our skin normally becomes thinner and finely wrinkled. Oil
producing, (sebaceous) glands become less active, and our skin becomes
drier. The number of blood vessels in your skin decreases, and your dermis
can get thinner, and more fragile, so you lose your youthful color and glow.
In addition, our skin replaces old cells more slowly and cells repair themselves less effectively.

This brings me to the products we use. A successful product must
address the problems of our aging skin. Most products provide an
artificial barrier so that moisture is trapped. While this may hydrate
the skin lying underneath this layer of greasy substances, it is not the
natural way our skin retains moisture. In fact, it is a failed strategy
as it “tricks” the skin in to perceiving that all is OK. Products based in
petroleum and mineral oil may feel good at first and you think you have
found the perfect one. In essence, you are only correcting the problem
in a short term. Such products have done nothing to correct the basic underlying problem. Once again leaving you on a quest to find "the
perfect formula".

Aging is the hard part however; preserving our skin should be the easy
part. Finding a product that is readily absorbed and leaves no topical
residue factor or greasy after feel should not be so difficult.

Our dry and wrinkly skin is the consequence of a loss of natural occurring
lipids in our skin. Such lipids are sterols, fatty acids, and ceramides.
These lipids are readily absorbed and contribute to the natural processes
used to keep our skin hydrated and feeling soft. These ingredients are
also critical to many to pieces of the puzzle (in addition to hydration)
that keep our skin youthful.
